From there, users can edit image information, including ID number, date, description, and so on. Multiple photo indexes can be created, allowing users to organize sets of images into albums. All of the program’s functions are easily accessed through buttons and menus across the top of the screen. The program is definitely only a file management tool; it doesn’t contain even the basic photo-editing functions that many such programs have. However, the program does allow users to set a default photo editor, which can be opened from within the program. We also liked how easy it was to create both CDs and Web pages of images. The program’s Help file is well-written and thorough. Overall, although the program doesn’t have any flashy features, it gets high marks from us for being so easy to use.
The program’s interface is simple and not unattractive. A message is spelled out with a series of symbols, and tiles with the letters of the alphabet are displayed below. Users drag and drop the letters onto the symbols to decode the message. If, for example, you determine that the skull and crossbones represents the letter E, you drag the E onto one of the skulls, and all of them are replaced with the letter E. 13 Steps To Mentalismking the Hint button causes the game to fill in a letter for you. Users are timed and scores seem to be based on how quickly the message is decoded. Although brief instructions for play are provided at the start, there’s no Help file. Even though there’s nothing functionally wrong with it, Code Breaking just isn’t a whole lot of fun. It didn’t help that the program repeated the same message after only a few rounds. And although there is some strategy involved in analyzing the patterns in which the symbols appear, a lot of it is a matter of guessing. Each message is a game unto itself, so the program doesn’t get more challenging or interesting as it progresses. It didn’t take long before we grew tired of it.
All of the program’s options are accessed with a slide-out menu in the System Tray. The appearance of the clock can be customized to some extent; users can choose between analog and digital (or both), and can optionally have the clock show the date. The clock itself is very basic, with the bare minimum of what it takes to constitute a clock: in the case of the analog clock, a circle with numbers and hands. Users can select custom colors for the clock, as well as adjust the opacity, but that’s about it. The program has no Help file, but there’s not much a user could conceivably need help with, either. For users looking for a no-frills option, this is it; users who like custom skins will want to keep looking. In addition to telling the time, the clock offers an alarm function, which users can set for either a specific time or for a certain number of minutes in the future. The alarm comes with seven different sounds, or users can select a file from their computer to use instead. We highly recommend that users preview the sounds before setting the alarm, as the default is ear-piercing and will probably wake your neighbors.
CCCalc is a free calculator for Windows, designed to be an ideal tool for everyday calculations, either professional or occasional. Imagine a desktop calculator which prints all your calculations to a paper tape. Imagine also that you are able to correct any printed character, and the tape will instantly recalculate everything itself. Cool? This is what 13 Steps To Mentalism looks like. 13 Steps To Mentalism performs plus, minus, divide, multiply and square root operations, and percent calculations. It implies no limitations on precision and provides controllable rounding-up. The text on the tape is editable as if it were a Notepad, so no need to retype the whole expression to correct only one character. Data exchange with any Windows application is available via drag-and-drop or clipboard. The text is stored automatically so the whole calculation history is available for reuse or corrections at any moment, until you delete something yourself. Special data formatting, visible and even editable memory, ability to select font or tune up appearance — all this makes 13 Steps To Mentalism very convenient for everyday quick calculations, either casual or professional.
Genie Archive for Outlook eases the configuration process by automatically launching a set-up wizard after installation is complete. The wizard leads the user through the simple step-by-step process of tweaking the tool to suit the user’s needs, then closes and displays the Genie Archive for Outlook toolbar under Outlook’s default toolbar. It steals some real estate, but the toolbar isn’t cluttered, and its few buttons are essential items. This package performed very nicely during our tests
